Teds Woodworking Plans: What the Vendor Lists and What to Check Before You Buy
If you build furniture or small projects as a hobby, a big library of plans can be tempting. This post looks at one, Teds Woodworking (affiliate link), using only what the vendor says on its own pages. I have not looked inside the package, and I say where that matters.
What it is
Teds Woodworking is a digital package of woodworking plans and tutorials. The vendor says it contains 16,000 projects. That number is the vendor's own claim, and I have not checked it.
What the vendor lists
- Step-by-step plans with schematics, templates, and cutting and materials lists.
- Project types including large furniture, small crafts, outdoor projects and workshop projects.
- New plans to download each month and woodworking tutorials.
- A set of 150 premium video classes, according to the vendor's site.
- A free download of 50 plans, offered on the vendor's site.
Who it might suit
- Hobby woodworkers and DIYers who like to browse many ideas before choosing a project.
- People who want plans with cut lists and materials lists already written out.
- Beginners and experienced builders alike, as long as the plans fit their skill level and tools. I cannot say whether they do.
Who may want something else
- Anyone who wants a few carefully tested plans rather than a very large library. More plans is not the same as better plans.
- Anyone who needs plans for a specific project. Check that the plan you want is really included before you buy.
- Anyone who is new to power tools. Plans do not replace safe tool use, so follow the tool makers' safety guidance.
What to check before you pay
- The free sample plans first. Download them and judge the detail and clarity yourself.
- The order screens. The vendor's affiliate page describes extra offers, some recurring, after the first purchase, so read each screen and decline anything you do not want.
- The refund terms. The vendor's site mentions a 60-day money-back guarantee through ClickBank; read the order page for the exact terms.
- Whether your device can open the files, and whether you can print them at the size you need.
My take
Based only on the vendor's own information, this looks like a reasonable thing to sample if you enjoy browsing a large collection of plans, and a poor fit if you want a small, carefully tested set. Start with the free plans. If you want to see the details yourself, here is the vendor's page (affiliate link).
